Penn State Earth and Engineering Sciences came to HLA with a desire to modernize their employee lounge on a budget. Last renovated in the early 2000s with an aesthetic that seemed to coincide more with the 80s era, their lounge completely lacked appeal resulting in underutilization. HLA was challenged with instituting a fresh and updated interior finish concept that not only complemented existing features of the space that were unable to be changed, but also incorporated elements symbolic of the department’s work in natural sciences. The finished product features a synchrony of various natural materials with a modern, playful color scheme, and with the added help of soft seating and expanded kitchen storage, the new and improved space is sure to provide staff with all the amenities that a lounge should. Can you spot the hidden carbon allotrope structure pattern?
